The Advanced Social Networks PDW will allow researchers who are currently engaged in social network research, or who have specific plans to incorporate social network concepts into existing streams of research, to interact with one another. The goal of the PDW is to facilitate interaction among researchers engaged in network research. We are especially hopeful that cross level interactions will occur, in keeping with the inherently multilevel nature of social network analysis.

Discussion leaders will provide introductory comments to the group of PDW participants. Each discussant will present her or his thoughts on the most promising social network concepts likely to emerge in the next few years. These ideas will be actionable and relevant to participants, and discussants will be allowed to comment on one anothers’ thoughts. After the introductory presentations, participants will break out into discussion groups organized around topics of interest. Topics will be determined by discussion leaders’ and participants' joint research interests, expressed when they register. Discussion groups will provide general reports to the whole group in a concluding session, allowing for another round of feedback, and providing participants one last opportunity to see the kinds of research ideas that are amenable to network analysis. Finally, to facilitate cross level research projects, a network of individuals x research interests will be generated and disseminated to participants.

Advanced registration is required. To register, please visit https://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg. The deadline to register is July 11, 2008. Please also email a brief description (50 words or less) of research interests specific to network analysis along with your preference of the top five discussants you would like to sit in on to Heather Dixon-Fowler, HDixon-fowler@walton.uark.edu.

NOTE: This is an advanced social networks PDW, intended to allow researchers who are currently engaged in social network research to interact with one another. If you are not currently involved in social network research, please look into the Introduction to Social Networks Research PDW.
