Biography:

Emery Yao is an Assistant Professor in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Pittsburgh. He teaches courses in the area of Strategic Management. His research interests include Strategic Management, Technology and Innovation, International Business, Network Theory and Analysis, and Computational Social and Organizational Theory. He has been working on longitudinal studies of alliance networks and technological innovation in the global pharmaceutical industry for several years. Currently he investigates how firms can best explore and exploit inter-organizational alliance relations in order to enhance their innovative capabilities based on firms' alliance and patent profile examinations. His studies have been awarded two National Science Foundation Grants. He was selected as a finalist for INFORMS Organization Science Best Dissertation Proposal Competition. In addition, his work has also led to several best conference paper honors in the Academy of Management Meeting and Strategic Management Society Meeting. Before his doctoral study, he worked in the areas of Strategic Planning, Merger & Acquisition, and Strategic Alliance.

Research Interests:

My research interests include alliances and networks, competitor dynamics and multimarket competition, and computational organizational theory.
