Research Interests:

My core research interests integrate strategic management with modern financial theory (MFT).   In general, I draw from core ideas in signaling theory and competitive dynamics to explore how investor perceptions of firm-, behavioral-, and relational-level factors influence the assignment of stock risk ( beta) and a dependent variable new to strategy research, short interest.  First, is in the area of competitive dynamics, and my research explores the relationship between competitive strategy, beta and short interest.   Results, for example, suggest firms that carry out a heterogeneous (relative to rivals) pattern of competitive actions are assigned higher betas.  Second, I explore how network-relational and/or institutional factors influence the intensity of competitive interaction and its consequences.   To this end, I have a theoretical paper that will be empirically tested.   I believe that the perceptions of a given firm's behavioral and relational capital will be vital components of investor's risk assessments.
